Source of the map
The map is our own rendering of freely available catalogue data and is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. It uses the logarithmic projection of J. Richard Gott III and Mario Jurić (Gott, Jurić et al., “A Map of the Universe”, ApJ 624, 463, 2005). Stars and galaxies lie within ±2° of the celestial equator; planets, minor bodies and satellites are shown at their position on the map date.
- Galaxies and quasars: Sloan Digital Sky Survey, Data Release 17 (Abdurro'uf et al. 2022, ApJS 259, 35). Funding for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV has been provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, and the Participating Institutions (full acknowledgement).
- Nearby galaxies: within 11 Mpc from the Updated Nearby Galaxy Catalog (Karachentsev, Makarov & Kaisina 2013, AJ 145, 101), from 11 to 110 Mpc from the 2MASS Redshift Survey (Huchra et al. 2012, ApJS 199, 26) within a band narrowing to ±2° at 110 Mpc – both via VizieR (CDS, Strasbourg).
- Stars: This work has made use of data from the European Space Agency (ESA) mission Gaia, processed by the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC). Gaia DR3, licence CC BY-SA 3.0 IGO. Bright stars from Hipparcos (ESA 1997; van Leeuwen 2007, A&A 474, 653) via the VizieR catalogue service of CDS, Strasbourg.
- Stars and brown dwarfs within 10 pc: Reylé et al. 2021, “The 10 parsec sample in the Gaia era”, A&A 650, A201, via the VizieR catalogue service of CDS, Strasbourg. They are followed by stars from 10 to 100 pc from the Gaia Catalogue of Nearby Stars (Gaia Collaboration, Smart et al. 2021, A&A 649, A6) within a band around the celestial equator that narrows from the whole sky at 10 pc to ±2° at 100 pc.
- Stars with planets (blue circles): This research has made use of the NASA Exoplanet Archive, which is operated by the California Institute of Technology, under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under the Exoplanet Exploration Program.
- Sun, Moon, planets and spacecraft: NASA/JPL, ephemeris DE440 and JPL Horizons.
- Asteroids and Kuiper belt: This research has made use of data provided by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center.
- Earth satellites: orbital data from CelesTrak (T.S. Kelso).

- Sky cutouts: The Digitized Sky Surveys were produced at the Space Telescope Science Institute under U.S. Government grant NAG W-2166. Colored & Healpixed by CDS. Non-commercial use only.
- The sky cutouts are stored as copies on this server, computed from the ESA mirror of the DSS colored survey.
- This research made use of hips2fits, a service provided by CDS, Strasbourg, France.
